Recent Review (synthUniverse):

SIDPAD is inspired by the 6581/8580 SID chips that were used to generate sound in the Commodore 64. SIDPAD has 50 preset sounds that sound similar to the kind of sounds used in the Commodore 64 and 50 user presets to store your own sounds. For the presets a lot of the sounds are instantly recognizable. Mozart Sid, Classic arp1, arp2 are sure to bring back memories for those people who used the Commodore 64 way back in the early 80s.
The VOICE page has several interesting feauture to create your own sounds. Being 3 voice you can mix and match 4 waveforms: Square, Saw, Triangle and Noise together. Each waveform has several settings to change, such as its Pulse Width, Portamento, Transpose and Fine Tune. For effects you have Hard Sync and Ring Modulation. The VCA section has the usual Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release rates to adjust.

The FILTER page has several settings that will affect the tone of the sound. You can use the filter to affect 1 voice or 3 voices at once. The filtertypes include LP, HP and BP, including the option to turn it off altogether. The actual filter settings include an ENV Amount, Cutoff and Resonance. There is also a ENV section to change Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release.

The MOD page gives you several options to assign various parameters to create movement. You can draw up to 4 graphs and assign Depth and Speed to each one. You can then Loop the sound, Retrig and copy and paste within the 4 graphs. The assignable values for the depth are Pitch 1, 2, 3, Pulsewidth 1, 2, 3, Filter cutoff and Off. The same for the Speed of the Modulation.

The WAVETABLE page has to be enabled to turn it on, unlike the other sections which activate when you go to the screen. It is a 16 step wavetable editor useful
to create effects and arpeggiated melodies. There is a loop to keep the sound going and a speed dial.

The CONFIG page has information for what version of SIDPAD you have, A MIDI mapping button and Record button to export performance to .WAV.

This is a great little app. Very flexible and intuitive. The design is simple and well laid out. Get it free to see how easy it is to create cool retro sounds or buy the PRO version to delve deeper in it. Whatever you decide it wont disappoint.
